| Long, long ago... I started this stuff. I'm afraid that everything is changed but I still can't think of anything that is worth writing down! I am now, divorced, a grandmother, used bookstore owner and mother of three boys. I work at the largest retail store chain in the world better known as Walmart. Boy that didn't take long at all. Maybe if I do this every week I will remember creative writing skills I forgot. God knows I don't really want to talk about myself anyway. | | |
| Hey I wrote this for an assignment for my journalism class. I liked it and I thought I would see what you thought. I have to turn it in on Monday so I would really appreciate your feedback.
This week the politics have really heated up. The early voting option has become very popular this year. I do not see this as a bad thing. I caught some of CSPAN last week and they were arguing the point. One man's premise is that voters would miss-out on a chance to change their minds due to late breaking news. I would say that most folks are certain beyond changing over these kinds of last minute changes. And that is to the good “October surprises” are counter productive to good politics. If there is such a thing as good politics. Politicians should have established their ideologies long before October.
I drove past one such polling place the other day and it was chock full with little parking to spare. As I considered my options, people walked in and out visiting. I saw many seniors smiling as they made their way to and from the poll. I also saw people who had obviously dropped in during a break from work. I can see why early polling is appealing to so many. A business owner who has few employee's could take advantage of the fact that each employee could vote on a different day. Eliminating a lost day of work.
It seems to me that early polling would be especially helpful for those who have trouble getting around. There was none of the rushed feeling one often gets on election day. And being able to take longer to read the ballot would be truly advantageous to many. Because of the limited number of these polling places they could be chosen with the impaired in mind. I know the one I passed had no stairs and no need for a ramp.
Ultimately I chose to wait for election day. I enjoy the atmosphere and I like meeting people who assist in voting. Also like to meet the others who are there to vote, these are my neighbors, we are voting on all the same issues and public officials. We may not chose the same position or candidate but we are linked by the same choices. I get a feeling of wonder as I oversize the single most important of our rights as citizens of the United States of America. | | |
| I have had this site for months and I am just now getting
started. We have had an exciting year so far. Jim spent 4
months in Iraq, and like someone running for President he recieved a
bronze star. Unlike said canidate he recieved it for the whole of
the four months he was there. On his return we took leave in June
and that was great! I am so glad to visit everyone! We are hoping
to see more of our friends the next time. We also visited Jim's
family and the kids had a wonderful time getting to know their
grandparents. It was a long trip, we traveled accross the country
from here in North Carolina to Oklahoma City. We really enjoyed
our stay there and thanks again the Cullum's for their
hospitality. The grandparents live in New Mexico. And that was a
great visit, we went to museums and the zoo. We can't thank you
enough for the great time we had. I have to say that I was quite
tired after our many adventures. Then we traveled on to Texas and
saw some old haunts and visited the Porr family, where we had a
wonderful evening. Thanks Nancy, Dave and kids.
Back home again, it took me weeks to recover. However, I am now
very busy and I have plans to be even more busy in the future. I
have all four kids in school for the first time! Praise the
Lord!! I signed up for a class-- online. I am now taking
Community Journalism. The kids are playing ball in Lillington, TJ is
playing football and the other two are playing soccer. I am also
coaching Quarren's team and I am looking forward to the fun. I am
involved with the Family Readiness Group and if they do not need my
assistance, then I plan to volunteer on post for something else, during
the time that Jim is busy mainly. I have plans to volunteer at
the boy's school and lastly, I need to repair my car. So, you can
see there is a lot on my plate.
